it's my dad playing chess with Johnny Smith in about 1973, give or take a year. Johnny was one of the cleanest guitar players of his generation.

He woke me up this morning with talk of making a pirate ship in the backyard. I'm thinking, How the hell are we going to do that? So i tell him that we don't have the materials, but he reminds we have a hammer and a drill and there are some bits of wood next to the shed.

Later that afternoon I'm working inthe garden, and FD wants to make the pirate ship. I keep working and he gets the 7 or 8 bits of wood, arranges them around the wheel barrow, then shows me his "ship", complete with imaginary water. He's a happy pirate.

It rained non-stop for 36 hours, then off & on for another 24. Of course, when we departed, it was sunny and beautiful, but it took us 2 hours to escape the mud.
